The Task
Your task is to:
1. Take on one of the roles (historian, sociologist, fashion designer, media mogul).
2. Complete the task related to the role through exploring Internet links.
3. Combine your learning into a group project that expresses your thinking.
As teams, you and your classmates are to imagine and research living and working in the years 1800-present. This is a very real mission. The President of the United States has asked you to complete a report comparing the past and present societal attitudes and roles of women in the United States and to note if progress has been made, and what, if any progress, is left to be made in equality between genders. His purpose is for a full report supporting the construction of a new memorial : Break-the-Mold of Stereotypes in American History in Washington, D.C.
By completing a VENN Diagram about what you already know about three events, 10 famous women, situations, ideas and concepts around women's changing rights over the time, you can compare the elements and characteristics of items you brainstormed and help focus on what you need to research and learn before answering the Big Questions. Then your group will compare a woman's role in 1800 with one today in a web presentation. Choose the information most needed for your Congressional presentation. You'll find as many questions as answers, that's good, it means your mind is spinning with thoughts and ideas.
